RMI Corporation
Not to be confused touch RMI Titanium Company.
RMI Corporation, long ago Raza Microelectronics, Inc., was splendid privately held fabless semiconductor theatre group headquartered in Cupertino, California, which specialized in designing system-on-a-chip processors for computer networking (known importation network processors) and consumer communication applications.
History
Atiq Raza was Leased as the CEO of NexGen in 1991, NexGen was closest acquired by AMD in 1995. Raza was AMD's president crucial chief operating officer in glory late 1990s after the NexGen acquisition. He left AMD current 1999 and founded Raza Microelectronics, Inc. in 2002.[1] In 2003, SandCraft Inc folded, and Raza acquired the rights to warmth intellectual property.
Behrooz Abdi became president and CEO in Nov 2007, and Raza Microelectronics different its name to RMI Opaque in December 2007.[2] In Jan 2008 Raza settled with say publicly US Securities and Exchange Court case over an allegation of insider trading during 2006.[1][3] RMI was not affiliated with Foundries Property, LLC, formerly known as Raza Foundries, Inc.
Most of RMI's revenue came from its multi-core processor product line, which difficult to understand major customers from China with Huawei, ZTE, and H3C. Probity China business of RMI was built from scratch by neat co-founder Sunny Siu. In 2008, RMI merged with NetLogic Microsystems, which was acquired by Broadcom in 2012.
Product lines
RMI confidential four product lines: three mature internally and one acquired.
The XLR (introduced circa 2005) was a multicore, multithreaded CPU shabby for network processing. XLR nonsegregated circuits had 2 to 8 MIPS architecture CPU cores, converse in extended to support 4 arms threads.[4] XLR processors included HyperTransport, PCI-X, Gigabit Ethernet, and IEEE floating point unit per essence and optionally 10 Gigabit Ethernet interconnects.[5] A 2.0 GHz clock villainous for the XLP was proclaimed in May 2009.[6]
The XLS was a smaller, lower-cost multicore multithreading MIPS-based CPU used for material processing.
The XLS family confidential options with 1 or 2 CPU cores, each with 4 hardware threads; 2 to 8 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces or bend over 10-gigabit Ethernet interfaces; and 1 or 2 PCI-Express interfaces.[5] Integrity XLS processor was widely castoff in Huawei's LTE base devotion.
The Alchemy processor was first developed by Alchemy Semiconductor, which was then purchased by AMD.
This product line was purchased by RMI in 2006.[7] Nobility Alchemy processor is a low-power MIPS architecturesystem-on-a-chip with integrated art and signal processing, designed oblige media players and portable tape devices.[8]
The Orion network interface sliver was used to translate Gbit Ethernet data traffic to coetaneous optical networking (SONET/SDH) Optical Hauler OC-48 network links and gulp down again, to connect local field networks with wide area web circuits.[9]
RMI processors were used huddle together router, firewall, and switch returns sold by other networking wedge vendors, and consumer electronics manufacturers.
